BETTY SUGARMAN

Dr. Betty Sugarman is an independent consultant for executive education, training, coaching and mentoring a wide range of business leaders in strategies for effective communications and problem solving.  She has designed and taught seminars in strategic communications, consulting methodology, and relationship management.  Current clients include global industry leaders in technology, consulting, healthcare, finance, transportation, and media.  She also teaches graduate courses in communications and leadership at Columbia University.

Dr. Sugarman is one of the founding partners of SOE, Inc., a firm that designs and licenses professional development programs for large, international, consulting firm events.

Before working independently, Dr. Sugarman was Internal Consultant for Professional Development at Booz & Company.  As internal consultant, she developed and taught a range of seminars in management skills and leadership.  She also designed a new strategy for individual and team development that became firm policy.  She worked one on one with professional staff worldwide in assessing needs and developing customized programs.

Prior to her work at Booz, Dr. Sugarman served as a communications and research consultant to industry and non-profit organizations. She has written annual reports for major corporations as well as speeches and articles for chief executive officers and elected public officials, including the Mayor of Jerusalem.

Dr. Sugarman has taught writing and literature in universities both in the United States and abroad.  She has developed curricula for a wide variety of courses and was a contributing editor for an American literature textbook published by Harvard University Press.  She received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to research methodologies for the teaching of writing.  While living in Jerusalem, Dr. Sugarman worked as an editor and writer for the Jerusalem Foundation, editing and directing the production of an internationally distributed journal and a series of monographs

Dr. Sugarman received her Ph.D. and MA with Distinction from Columbia University.
